That's something I really like about Talking Dead - a show that comes on after TWD. They had Marilyn Manson on the other day and it was really an odd episode. Basically, though, they talk character development - Rick vs. New council - which is better? Story lines with Carol and Daryl. They even touched on the subject of Daryl's popularity.
Yes, Daryl was specifically created for the television show. The show does follow some of the story lines from the comic book, but they also add in characters and stories of their own.
I've been doing some research online and there's some really great articles about the show. Word of caution, though. If you're not caught up with the series, you'll run into a lot of spoilers.
